Rescue Services

The first surf lifesaving patrols in WA commenced on Cottesloe Beach back in 1909. Surf Life Saving in WA has since grown and expanded its services to patrol 28 beaches in Western Australia. Approximately 4,000 patrolling members from 28 Surf Life Saving clubs are committed to protecting the WA public at the beach.

Surf lifesavers in WA now have access to some of the highest quality rescue equipment available, to help them in saving lives and keeping West Australians safe at the beach.

Paid Lifeguard services have also continued to develop with positions available in 14 Lifeguarding locations throughout WA. Opportunities also exist to join the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue helicopter crew and Radio Operations team, as well as avenues to pursue year round positions that can see you being paid to on beaches all around the world enjoying an endless summer and providing an essential lifesaving service to the community.

The services provided to the community by Surf Lifesaving Western Australia (SLSWA) include but are not limited to:

  • Volunteer Lifesaver Patrols
  • Paid Lifeguard Services
  • Wesfarmers Emergency Response Team
  • Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter
  • SurfCom (Radio Network)
  • New technology (e.g. Emergency Response Points)
