The junior development program for members aged 8 includes lessons on Personal safety networks, beach safety tips, identifying dangers at the beach and the impact surf lifesavers have on the beach. The skills that are starting to develop include basic board positioning and paddling, body surfing, running techniques in the sand and beach flags.

All juniors in this age group will need to be assessed on their ability to swim 25 metres in any stroke and float for 1 minute before taking part in any water activities at the beach. Children are encouraged to participate in all activities to give themselves an opportunity to develop their skills. Those members who complete this award will receive a Surf Aware Two certificate at the end of the season.
